September is so called because it was the seventh month of the old Roman calendar. The Goddess Pomona, patroness of fruit and fruit-bearing tress, is the ruling deity of the month of September. The autumnal equinox, known as Mabon in Celtic occurs on September 22nd at 8:09 pm PDT. The spring and fall Equinox are a time of balance, when the days are as long as the nights. It always marks the first day of a new sign –Aries and Libra respectively. The Fall Ritual is a harvest celebration. Decorate your home and your altar with dried wheat, gourds, acorns, pumpkins, Fall leaves and flowers. Use candles in Fall colors such as green, gold, yellow, orange, russet and dark red. Set the center of your altar with spiritual objects that are sacred to you. Because you are celebrating your own harvest, gather the fruits of all the things you`ve “planted” since the last Fall Equinox. These can be photos of grandchildren, friends, partners, diplomas, certificates, things you have purchased, projects completed. Invoke your spiritual guide whether they are God, Goddess, Christ, your Guardian Angels…and thank them all for the gifts they have brought into your life during the past year.

SEPTEMBER CRYSTALS AND STONES
The birthstone for September is the Sapphire. Sapphire is the stone for wisdom, insight and knowledge. It opens up the 3rd eye for greater clairvoyancy and vision . September is the birth-month for Virgo and Libra. The astrological stone for Virgo is Carnelian, mentioned in Augusts’ newsletter, and for Libra it is Rose Quartz. THE FEATURED PLANT OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER IS LAVENDAR
Probably the all-time favorite herb, the Greeks and Romans bathed in lavender-scented water and it was from the Latin word lava (to wash) that the herb took its name. Washer women in England were once known as “lavenders.” Highly esteemed by royalty, it is said Queen Victoria kept the castle filled with its scent. In ancient folklore and traditional herbal texts, lavender is well-documented as a reputable healer. Lavender is the oil of serenity and composure. A few drops on the pillow or on an aroma lamp will assure a good night`s sleep. Added to massage oil, lavender helps relax the body and relieve muscle tension and burdensome thoughts. Lavender oil also may be helpful in treating headaches, especially sinus headaches. Used like balm oil, it can be rubbed on the temples or used with a cool compress. For insect bites, bee stings, burns, eczema, boils and dermatitis, lavender oil is the treatment of choice. It`s no wonder lavender is known as the Angel of Healing and Purification. With its strong antiseptic and antibiotic properties, lavender is excellent for clearing negative energy from one`s aura and environment.
